Vital Health Consulting

Disability Management Services

Disability management is based on relationships and for these programs to be successful, commitment from all stakeholders is essential. Vital Health will work with your organization and all stakeholders to develop workable solutions together. A Disability Management program is designed to maintain the health of all employees and contain costs associated with absences.

Understanding the job and bona fide occupational requirements (BFOR)  is important in determining individual function and readiness to return to work. Vital Health can assist with documentation of the job demands, work with treatment providers in matching the worker's current function with those demands and developing safe, sustainable return to work programs.

There are three levels of intervention for disability case mangement with Vital Health:

Level 1: these are the simple cases easily managed through Human Resources. Often a short consultation is all that is required to insure all aspects of the case are covered and an appropriate return to work plan is in place.

Level 2: these are the slightly more complex cases that could have started as a simple case but certain aspects have changed or there is a secondary condition that is creating a delay in recovery and return to work. Generally, if the case is extending past 6 weeks or beyond the initial timeline expected for recovery, referral to an Occupatinal Health Nurse for disability management is beneficial.

Level 3: these are the complex cases where early referral to an Occupational Health Nurse is in the best interest of all parties. Examples for this level include  cases with more than one diagnosis, mental health issues, substance use disorders, safety sensitive positions, management or executive level absences, or notification of a lengthy absence with minimal medical support on file.
